Kabir, Doha 35

धीरे-धीरे रे मना, धीरे सब कुछ होय। माली सींचे सौ घड़ा, ऋतु आये फल होय॥

Pronunciation: dheere-dheere re mana, dheere sab kuch hoy.
mali seeñche sau ghada, ritu aaye phal hoy.

Meaning: Slowly, slowly, O mind, everything happens at its own pace. The gardener waters a hundred pots, but fruits appear only in their season.

Reflection

Kabir, the 15th-century poet and saint, offers a timeless reminder about patience and natural progression in this doha (couplet). The line suggests that no matter how much effort you put in, certain outcomes cannot be hurried. Just like a gardener can water plants abundantly, but fruits will only ripen when the season is right, life’s results also require timing and patience.

This wisdom critiques modern impatience, where immediate results are often expected due to rapid technological progress. Kabir emphasizes the importance of aligning with nature's rhythms. By accepting this, we not only reduce anxiety but also allow for organic growth. His teachings remind us that everything meaningful takes time to mature and rushing can disrupt natural processes.

Moreover, Kabir highlights the balance between action and acceptance. While the gardener's work (watering) is crucial, recognizing and respecting the right conditions (season) is equally important. This balance can be applied to any endeavor, be it personal development, career growth, or relationships.

Practical Application

In today's fast-paced world, apply Kabir's wisdom by practicing patience and perseverance in your goals. Whether you're nurturing a new skill or waiting for a career opportunity, understand that consistent effort is vital, but results will manifest in their own time. Reflect on the nature of your efforts periodically and trust in the due course of time. This approach can help in reducing stress and increasing satisfaction in both professional and personal life.
